5 Steps to Closet Detox
Okay, let’s get started on that dream closet of yours...
But before we dive into reorganizing all our clothes, let’s take a step back - shouldn’t we first clear out anything unnecessary?
Here are 5 easy-peasy steps to a closet detox (trust me, it's worth it!):
1. Condition Check
I know, you have to keep that band T-shirt from your first concert ever, even though it’s got more holes on it it's pretty much see-through. But, apart from these few sentimental pieces, the rest of your wardrobe should be in good condition. If you can fix the damage - do so. If it’s beyond repair, it’s time to let it go.
Tip: Store your clothes properly to help them last longer.
2. Fit Check
We’ve all been there - buying clothes in sizes that might fit soon. But let’s be real, if it’s not the right size now, it’s probably never going to be. This is the perfect opportunity to free some space in your closet and also bring someone joy by gifting them a pretty piece of clothing that is their size.
3. The Past-Year Rule
Sometimes we buy things that look great in the store, but when we get home, they just don’t quite match our style. Plus, there are clothes we forget we even own! Here's a simple rule: If you haven’t worn it in a year, let it go, let it go...can't hold it back anymore (unless it’s for a special occasion, of course!)
4. Organise
Arrange your clothes by occasion. This makes it super easy to pick an outfit depending on your day. Wedding? Put your dressy pieces in one section. Gym clothes? Keep them in a designated drawer. Pajamas? Hang them on a Rope Hook! It’ll help you see your wardrobe more clearly and stop you from buying more of the same thing. So next time you go shopping, you will know that there are ENOUGH grey perfect-for-the-office cardigans hanging in your closet. : )
5. Buy consciously
Next time you go shopping, ask yourself 3 questions:
- Does it fit me now?
- Is it a lasting piece or a trend?
- Can I mix and match it with at least 3 other items?
* Tip: Keep these questions in the notes of your phone to always have them handy.
Cleaning out your closet gives you a better overview of your clothes and can help minimize impulsive shopping. Believe me, this can be a huge mood-changer!
